Germany's total vineyard area is divided into a number of geographical units.
The most important geograhical unit for German wine is one of the 13 specified wine-growing regions, subdivided into smaller appellations, e. g. Bereich (district), Grosslage (collective vineyard site) and Einzellage (individual vineyard site). Over the years, several of the Grosslage names have become so well-known that they virtually function as brands, particularly in the German supermarket trade and in export markets. Usually, Germany's top-quality wines bear the name of an Einzellage.
All Bürgerspital sites are Einzellagen (individual vineyard sites) and located in the heart of the specified wine-growing region Franken (Franconia).

Würzburger Stein
We only cultivate classical varietals (Riesling, Silvaner, Weißer Burgunder, Gewürztraminer, Rieslaner, Scheurebe) on some 30 hectares in the world-renowned location Würzburger Stein. Its terroir being a rare combination of the micro-climate, soil and the slope inclination, direction and proximity to the river - offers wines of the very highest quality. Right in the middle of the Wuerzburger Stein is the vineyard "Stein-Harfe" (= stone harp) which is in our proud possession.
